There's One Way

My name is John, which means "gracious gift." I want to be a gift to you. And at the risk of sounding presumptuous. . . I know the Way to God (see John 14:1-11).

I write about true spirituality, the Christian life and seeking first the Kingdom of God.

My hope is that your faith will be strengthened and your heart encouraged to stand with me in the grace of Jesus.

I have noticed…

… a lot of creepy anons on tumblr —- not in my mailbox, but in those of female bloggers for whom I have great respect. The world has always had its creepers, of that I am sure… but perhaps, as of late, Internet porn has flushed them out of hiding and into our faces.

Just a thought.

God Bless,

John S.

The Hidden King, by John Arthur Spalding

Starving souls are all around
In kingly clothes and masks.
We walk among the regal robes,
We’re given urgent tasks.
                  * * *
We’re dropping bread crumbs on the ground
Leading straightway to a king
Who’s dressed so unlike royalty
Or much of anything.
                  * * *
“That man o’er there with wounded hands
We know that he can lift your head!
The hidden king gives hidden manna
Through everything he’s said!”
                  * * *
“Catch living water from his lips,
Thirsty souls, gather round!
Give him all your royal garments,
Let your mask fall to the ground!”
                  * * *
In compassion he gives real life
To knaves like us, you see,
When we face the truth
That we aren’t full or rich,
But stuck in poverty.

Starving souls are all around

In kingly clothes and masks.

We walk among the regal robes,

We’re given urgent tasks.

                  * * *

We’re dropping bread crumbs on the ground

Leading straightway to a king

Who’s dressed so unlike royalty

Or much of anything.

                  * * *

“That man o’er there with wounded hands

We know that he can lift your head!

The hidden king gives hidden manna

Through everything he’s said!”

                  * * *

“Catch living water from his lips,

Thirsty souls, gather round!

Give him all your royal garments,

Let your mask fall to the ground!”

                  * * *

In compassion he gives real life

To knaves like us, you see,

When we face the truth

That we aren’t full or rich,

But stuck in poverty.

“Indeed, the paradox of Christian leadership is that the way out is the way in, that only by entering into communion with human suffering can relief be found.”

I cried throughout

the movie, Facing the Giants … not because the acting was great; it wasn’t … but because of the powerful message…

But the giant’s calling out
my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I’ve tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
time and time again
“Boy you’ll never win,
you’ll never win.”

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the Voice of truth says “do not be afraid!”
and the Voice of truth says “this is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth…

“Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and will not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” ~John 3:20-21

I live in a Machine of madness and sin…

          … I live in a Society of saints and image bearers of Him … this is my Father’s world.
